EURODOC: Executives Workshop

Deadline

1 March 2010

June and September 2010, Romania

www.eurodoc-net.com

The EURODOC Executives Workshop aims to open a new space for exchange and reflection on the responsibilities of commissioning executives and the development of the documentary genre. Publicly-owned television plays a dominant role in the field of documentary films in Europe and in the world, but opportunities for guidance, advice and discussion between producers and financiers are few and far between.

The EURODOC Executives Workshop will take place in two complementary sessions. The first session is orientated towards the production of films and the relationship between producers and authors, from the genesis of a film until its broadcasting. The second session will focus on programming and, more generally, on the broadcasting and circulation of films. All new forms of broadcasting will be analysed in order to prepare participants for the many inevitable changes in the production landscape.

The sessions will be as follows:

The business of being a commissioning editor
Romania, June 2010 (6 days)

Commissioning editors - what does the future hold?
France, September 2010 (5 days)

Two prestigious commissioning editors will act as tutors throughout the programme:

  • Thierry Garrel, ex-head of the documentary programme unit at Arte France
  • Erkki Astala, head of co-productions at YLE Television in Finland.

Participants should fall into one of the following categories:

  • Commissioning executives from the documentary departments of the broadcasters
  • Executives for documentaries from film funds working at regional, national or European level
  • Executives from institutions that fund documentary projects.

A maximum of 15 participants will be selected. Five participants from 'third countries' (outside Europe) will be welcomed in the seminar, in the framework of MEDIA International.

Training fees: €2,600, exclusive of travel and accommodation.

The deadline for applications is 1 March 2010.
