UK animation companies honoured at Cartoon Forum
The European Association of Animation Film has announced its 15 nominees for Cartoon Tributes 2008.
Cartoon Tributes recognise outstanding contributions to the European animation industry annually during the Cartoon Forum. The 2008 awards will be presented on 19 September during the Cartoon Forum in Ludwigsburg.
The UK leads the nominee list alongside France and Germany. Over 750 professionals attending the forum will choose the winners in three categories - Broadcaster, Distributor/Investor, and Producer of the Year.
In the Broadcaster of the Year category, the UK nominee is S4C, the Welsh broadcaster, for 'having a strong track record in the field of children's programming and its dynamic production activity has tremendously helped Welsh animation's debvelopment.' S4C will compete against France 3, Jetix Europe, Sveriges Television (SVT), and ZDF.
The UK's Rubber Duck Entertainment, a creative arm of the Contender Entertainment Group, is a nominee for Distributor/Investor of the Year. RDE's activity comprises of TV production and development, licensing & merchandising and international distribution. RDE will compete against Cartoon One (Italy), Marathon International (France), Studio100 Media (Belgium/Germany) and Your Family Entertainment (Germany).
Cosgrove Hall Films, the famous UK animation production house, is nominated in the Producer of the Year category for having developed more than 70 shows over its 30-year history. Cosgrove Hall will compete against Cartoon Saloon (Ireland), Folimage (France), Scopas Medien (Germany) and Xilam Animation (France).
