MEDIA staff at the Executive Agency in Brussels
The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency has officially taken over the operational management of the MEDIA Programme as of 1 January 2006. This new Agency replaces the Technical Assistance Office (TAO) and assumes all the duties of the TAO including:- Preparing and launching calls for proposals (or tenders)
- Evaluation and pre-selection of applicants and projects
- Contracting and signing project agreements
- Monitoring of projects (intermediate reports, final reports)
- Communicating with and providing information to beneficiaries
- On the spot controls
Former Head of MEDIA Unit within the European Commission, Costas Daskalakis, will manage the MEDIA portfolio within the new Executive Agency.

The MEDIA Unit within the European Commission will remain responsible for the political, institutional, budgetary and communication aspect of the programme as well as its overall evaluation.
The objectives of this reorganisation are to streamline the management and decision process and achieve a smoother, quicker and more efficient management of MEDIA funds as well as prepare for the next generation of the MEDIA Programme.
